Comparative pedagogy is the study of the differences in education systems and the history of education in different countries. Comparing the education systems of different countries gives a clear picture of the differences between societies. An example is the difference in Gimukyouiku. \u2018Gimukyouiku\u2019 (compulsory education) is the period during which children have to go to school. In Japan, there are six years of elementary school and three years of junior high school, nine years in all. In the USA, it ranges from 9 to 13 years, depending on the state. In Japan, all schools use the same textbooks.
