はい、こんにちは。今回こんかいはポッドキャストのシーズン２の20回目かいめです。私わたしは最近さいきんシカゴに旅行りょこうに行いったり、大阪おおさかで生徒せいとさんに会あったりしていました。大阪おおさかは今いますごく寒さむいです。寒さむいのであんかを買かいました。あんかとは足あしを温あたためる暖房器具だんぼうきぐです。机つくえでもベッドでも使つかえるので便利べんりです。

​​Hello, this is episode 20 of season 2 of my podcast. I’ve recently been travelling to Chicago and also meeting students in Osaka. It’s very cold in Osaka right now. It’s so cold that I bought Anka. Anka is a heating device that warms your feet. It is convenient because you can use it at your desk or on your bed. (It’s a small electronic device that you can rest your feet on.)

もう今年ことしも終おわりですね。生徒せいとさんの中なかにも、学校がっこうや仕事しごとが終おわって冬休ふゆやみを過すごしている人ひと「がたくさんいます。最近さいきん、生徒せいとさんとライフワークバランスの話はなしをよくします。私わたしもたまには出でかけようと思おもって、外そとに出でましたが、今日きょうは気温きおんが2度どしかなくてとても寒さむかったです。梅田うめだの近ちかくのクリスマスマーケットを見みに行いこうと思おもいましたが、思おもわず諦あきらめてしまいました。「思おもわず」とは、するつもりがなかったのに、してしまうことです。代かわりに近所きんじょでコーヒーを買かって、スーパーで買かい物ものをして帰かえりました。

It’s the end of another year. Many of my students are enjoying their winter holidays after school and work. Recently, I have been talking a lot with my students about work-life balance. Therefore I decided to go out once in a while, but it was very cold today with a temperature of only 2 degrees Celsius (35.6F). I thought about going to see the Christmas market near Umeda, but I omowazu gave up. Omowazu (unintentionally) means that you didn’t intend to, but you did. Instead, I bought a coffee in my neighbourhood, did some shopping at a supermarket and went home.

スーパーには正月しょうがつの食材しょくざいがたくさん並ならんでいます。カニや、数かずの子こや、干ほし柿がきがあります。正月しょうがつはクリスマスの後あとですが、日本にほんでは正月しょうがつの方ほうが長ながい祝日しゅくじつなので、クリスマスの時期じきから正月しょうがつの準備じゅんびを始はじめる家いえが多おおいです。クリスマスの食たべ物ものは24日かだけ売うってます。12月がつのスーパーは忙いそがしそうです。正月しょうがつやクリスマスのための特別とくべつな商品しょうひんを売うりますし、正月しょうがつの間あいだは閉しまるので、今いまはとても混雑こんざつしています。私わたしはいつも水みずを買かいますが、運はこぶのが重おもいので少すこしずつ買かわなければなりません。

Supermarkets are full of New Year’s foods. There are crabs, herring roe and dried persimmons. New Year’s Day is after Christmas, but in Japan New Year’s is a longer holiday, so many households start preparing for New Year’s from Christmas time. Christmas food is sold only on the 24th; supermarkets are busy in December. They sell special products for New Year and Christmas and they close during the New Year’s holiday, so they are very crowded now. I always buy (three days’ worth of) water in bottles (before the holiday starts), and I have to buy them little by little because they are heavy to carry.

Hello, this is episode 19 of season 2 of my podcast. I have finally updated the italki video. I have also updated my lessons a bit. As fewer students were taking the reading class, I created a JLPT class instead. The conversation and grammar classes will continue as before.

今日きょうは回転寿司かいてんずしの話はなしをします。日本にほんではレストランや、スーパーや、駅えきなど、いろいろなところで寿司すしが買かえます。なので、高たかい寿司すしと安やすい寿司すしがあります。回転寿司かいてんずしは、一般的いっぱんてきに、安やすい寿司すしが食たべられるレストランです。安やすいので、学生がくせいや、子供こどもがいる家族かぞくに人気にんきです。一方いっぽうで、マナーが悪わるい客きゃくが問題もんだいになっています。今年ことしの１月がつ、高校生こうこうせいが回転寿司かいてんずしで迷惑めいわくなことをして、SNSにアップロードする事件じけん(link: Daily Mail Online)がありました。それから回転寿司かいてんずしのイメージが悪わるくなってしまい、日本にほんでは少すこし人気にんきがなくなっています。

Today I will talk about kaitenzushi (conveyor belt sushi). In Japan, you can buy sushi at restaurants, supermarkets, train stations and many other places. So there is expensive sushi and cheap sushi. Kaitenzushi is generally a restaurant where you can eat cheap sushi. Because it is inexpensive, it is popular with students and families with children. On the other hand, customers with bad manners have become a problem. In January this year, there was an incident in which a high school student behaved badly at a kaitenzushi restaurant and uploaded it to social networking sites(link: Daily Mail Online). Since then, the image of kaitenzushi has been tarnished and it has become a little less popular in Japan.

だけど、最近さいきんの回転寿司かいてんずしはとても便利べんりです。回転寿司かいてんずしのチェーンは、ハイテク化かが進すすんでいます。レストランで順番じゅんばんを待まったり、注文ちゅうもんをしたり、お金かねを払はらったりするプロセスを、全すべてセルフサービスで行おこなえる店みせがあります。私わたしは先週せんしゅう、初はじめて近所きんじょの回転寿司かいてんずしに行いきました。便利べんりで驚おどろきました。座すわったまま何なんでもできて、私わたしが子供こどもの頃ころ行いった回転寿司かいてんずしとは全然違ぜんぜんちがいました。このチェーンでは、仕事しごとを全部ぜんぶAIに任まかせて、完全かんぜんに無人むじんにする計画けいかくがあるそうです。「無人むじん」とは、まったく人ひとがいないことです。SFみたいですね。

But these days, kaitenzushi is very convenient. Kaitenzushi chains are becoming increasingly hi-tech. There are places where the whole process of waiting your turn, ordering and paying at a restaurant is self-service. I went to my local kaitenzushi restaurant for the first time last week. I was surprised at how convenient it was. I could do everything while sitting down, it was totally different from the kaitenzushi I went to when I was a child. The chain has plans to make it completely mujin, with AI doing all the work (There are two kanji in mujin. 無(mu) means ‘no’ and 人(jin) means ‘people’). And by ‘mujin‘(un-manned/un-staffed) I mean no people at all. It sounds like science fiction.

Hello, this is episode 18 of season 2 of my podcast. I’ve finished all my university report assignments, so I’ve had a bit of free time recently, and I’d like to update my italki introduction video soon. I filmed the current video two years ago. The objectives and goals of new students have changed a bit, so I want to update the type of lessons I offer.

今日きょうは効果的こうかてきなテスト勉強べんきょうについてお話はなしします。日本語にほんごの代表的だいひょうてきなテストはJLPTですね。私わたしの生徒せいとさんの中なかにもJLPTを受験じゅけんした人ひとがたくさんいますが、レベルにかかわらず全員合格ぜんいんごうかくしています。テストを受うける時ときに一番大事いちばんだいじなことは、正ただしいレベルを選択せんたくすることです。その次つぎに、テスト勉強べんきょうの計画けいかくです。テストに申もうし込こんだら、テストの日ひをカレンダーに書かいて、テストまでにどれぐらい勉強時間べんきょうじかんがあるか考かんがえます。１年前ねんまえから勉強べんきょうを始はじめる人ひともいれば、３ヶ月前かげつまえに準備じゅんびを始はじめる人ひともいます。

Today I will talk about effective test study. The JLPT is the most well-known and widely-recognised test for the Japanese language. Many of my students have taken the JLPT, and they have all passed, regardless of their level. The most important thing when taking the test is to choose the right level. The second most important thing is to plan your test study. When you sign up for the test, you should write the test date on your calendar and think about how much time you have to study before the test; some people start studying a year in advance, while others start preparing three months in advance.

大切たいせつなのは早はやく始はじめることではなく、自分じぶんに合あったスケジュールを立たてることです。たとえば平日へいじつが忙しいそがい人ひとは、仕事しごとや学校がっこうの休やすみ時間じかんに勉強べんきょうするより、週末しゅうまつにじっくり勉強べんきょうした方ほうが集中しゅうちゅうできるはずです。普段ふだんあまり忙いそがしくない人ひとは、毎日まいにち決きまった時間じかんに勉強べんきょうすることで正ただしい生活せいかつのリズムを作つくることができます。「テスト勉強べんきょうはテストに合格ごうかくできなければ意味いみがない」というのは誤解ごかいです。誤解ごかいとは、人ひとや物ものについて間違まちがった理解りかいをして、正ただしくないイメージをもつことです。テスト勉強べんきょうは、自分じぶんに合あった勉強べんきょうスタイルを探さがして試ためすのにとても役立やくだちます。さらに、テストに合格ごうかくできると自信じしんがつきます。

The key is not to start early, but to create a schedule that suits you. For example, if you are busy during the week, it will be difficult for you to study during work or school breaks. You will be able to concentrate better if you study more thoroughly at the weekend. If you are not usually very busy, studying at a set time every day will help you to create a healthy daily rhythm. It is a Gokai that ‘studying for a test is pointless if you don’t pass the test.’ Gokai (misconception) is a wrong understanding and incorrect image of a person or thing. Studying for a test can be very helpful in finding and experimenting with the right study style for you. Furthermore, passing a test gives you more confidence.
